This design idiom lends the Coupé its own particular expressive power, emphasising the calm and power of its powerful, self-confident nature.
Familiar Mercedes features have been given a contemporary twist, resulting in a harmonious blend of the classic and contemporary. Examples include the hallmark Mercedes radiator grille with its wide chrome louvres and the design of the C-pillar. The unique, slightly downwards-tapering pillar configuration is a typical feature of the large Mercedes Coupés whose roots go right back to the 1950s: in 1956 the 220 S/SE Coupé (W 180/W 128 model series) first captured attention with this striking C-pillar design, and a few years later the concept was further refined in the suc-cessor model, the 220 SE Coupé (W 111/112).
Other design features which were already acclaimed back then have also been reinterpreted for the CL-Class, keeping alive the large coupé tradition of the Mercedes-Benz brand: the fully retractable side windows, for instance, whose continuous aperture is not interrupted by a B-pillar, and the large, curving panoramic rear window. In the early days this was a typical styling feature of the Mercedes Coupés, and in its stylistically evolved form for the new CL-Class it is just as appealing as in the 220 SE Coupé of 1961

There's always been much more to Ferraris than just phenomenal performance -- their styling, exclusivity and sheer presence all play a part in their allure. Since the 1970s, Ferrari's line of midengine V8-powered sports cars has provided the most "affordable" means of accessing this mystique, though some of these cars have been more successful than others. While most offered a level of performance that few cars could match, more recent years have ushered in new competition, which effectively addressed the Ferrari's weaknesses while improving upon its strengths. The famous sports-car maker from Maranello answered with the Ferrari F430 coupe and Spider convertible.
The car's basic shape is similar to its predecessor, but is edgier and adopts design cues from the Enzo supercar. Thanks to a lightweight space frame draped with aluminum body panels, the F430 weighs in at a lean 3,200 pounds. The heart of the F430's improvements, though, lies within its drivetrain. For all to see underneath a clear rear hatch is a redesigned 90-degree V8, accompanied by a newer version of the "F1" sequential-shift manual transmission. It now shifts more smoothly in everyday driving situations while still allowing super-quick upshifts and perfect rev-matched downshifts at the pull of a paddle.

1947 The beginning
* office of the Ferrari Founder Mr EnzoThe first Ferrari road car was the 1947 125 Sport, powered by a 1.5 L V12 engine; Enzo reluctantly built and sold his automobiles to fund the Scuderia. While his beautiful and blazingly fast cars quickly gained a reputation for excellence, Enzo maintained a famous distaste for his customers, most of whom he felt were buying his cars for the prestige and not the performance.
1961 The great walkout
Enzo Ferrari's strong personality had served his company and racing team well for decades. But internal tensions reached the boiling point in November 1961 Long-time sales manager, Girolamo Gardini, had long chafed at Enzo's wife, Laura's involvement in the company. The two frequently argued, but their dispute became a crisis for the company when Gardini made an ultimatum to Enzo: If tensions continued, he would leave the company.
Enzo was never a man to accept a challenge to his authority, and he dealt with the situation with a typically heavy hand. Gardini was ousted, as was Scuderia Ferrari manager, Romolo Tavoni, chief engineer Carlo Chiti, experimental sports car development chief, Giotto Bizzarrini, and a number of others who stood by them. All were tremendous losses to the company, and many thought this might be the end of Ferrari. Indeed, the defectors immediately formed a new company, ATS, to directly compete with Ferrari on the street and the track, and took with them Scuderia Serenissima, one of Ferrari's best racing customers.
This "great walkout" came at an especially difficult time for Ferrari. At the urging of Chiti, the company was developing a new 250-based model to defend its honor against the Jaguar E-Type. Development of this car, the 250 GTO, was at a critical point, with the chassis development and styling left incomplete. Even if the car could be finished, it was unclear if it could be raced successfully without Tavoni and his lieutenants.
Into this void stepped young engineer Mauro Forghieri and long-time racing bodyman, Sergio Scaglietti. Both were up to the task, with Forghieri successfully honing the GTO's handling and Scaglietti designing an all-new body for the car. The GTO went to Sebring with driver Phil Hill and placed first in class. It continued winning through 1962, brushing aside the challenge from Jaguar and becoming one of the most famous sports cars in history.
This shakeup, and Forghieri's engineering talent, made the 1960s even more successful for Ferrari than the previous decade. The mid-engined Dino racers laid the foundation for Forghieri's dominant 250-powered 250 P. On the street, the Dino road cars sold strongly, and legendary models like the 275 and Daytona were on the way.
1963-1967 The US rivals
The big V8-powered Shelby Cobra developed and built by the American engineer Carroll Shelby challenged the Ferraris in the early 1960s. By mid 60's, Ford tried to buy Ferrari but no agreement was reached. Instead, after being defeated in 1964 and 1965 races the Ford GT40 ended the dominance of Ferrari Prototypes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966 when the GT-40 Mark II dominated the race with a 1-2-3 finish.. Ford would win again in 1967, this time with its Mark IV prototype and also in 1968 and 1969 with the same GT-40 Mark II car winning both years to close out the decade against the new and upcoming Porsche 917.

After the performance of the big V8-powered Ford at the 1967 Le Mans, the FIA banned prototypes over 3000cc, which also affected the Ferrari 330P models. This was announced in late 1967 and came in effect for 1968, and the Scuderia did not take part in Sports car racing in order to protest this.
1969-1971 Porsche
These years saw a new challenger. Formerly competing with smaller cars only, the Germans entered the new 3 litre sports car prototype class in 1968 with the Porsche 908, while Ferrari raced the Ferrari 312P in only few events in 1969. In March of that year, the presentation of the 5 litre Porsche 917, built in advance in 25 exemplars, had surprised also Ferrari, which answered later that year with the production of 25 Ferrari 512S, funded from the money gained by the FIAT deal. At that time, Porsche had almost a full season of experience with their new car, though, and also taken the World Sportscar Championship where Ferrari was only 4th.
The year 1970 saw epic battles between the two teams and the many cars they entered, yet Porsche won all races except the 12 Hours of Sebring, where the victorious car and its drivers Ignazio Giunti/Nino Vaccarella/Mario Andretti had their origins in Italy. Ferrari decided to give up the 512 in 1971 in order to prepare the new Ferrari 312PB for the 1972 season, when only 3 litre class would be allowed. In addition to Porsche, the old national rival with its Alfa Romeo T33/3 also had won two races in 1971, and thus was ranked 2nd in the World Championship, above Ferrari.
1972-1973 dominance, defeats and fare-well
The Ferrari 312PB models dominated the World Sportscar Championship in 1972 against rival Alfa Romeo, as the Porsche factory did not compete after the rule changes, and Matra focused on Le Mans only. In their home race, the French won, as Ferrari did not enter in 1972 due insufficient reliability over 24 hours, in order not to blemish their otherwise perfect record in that season.
In 1973, though, the Matra team also challenged for the championship which Ferrari eventually lost with two wins, compared to Matra's five, while Alfa Romeo had not entered that year. In addition, Ferrari was now forced to race also at Le Mans, despite concerns that even the modified engine would not last. Yet, one car survived and scored an unexpected and honourable 2nd place.
Ferrari then retired from Sports car racing to focus on the ailing F1 effort.
1988 The Death Of Enzo
When Enzo died in 1988, Ferrari finally became a mythos. The value of used cars rose, as well as sales of current models. The last new model he commissioned was the specialist F40.
1996 Champion Schumacher to Scuderia Ferrari
The hiring of Michael Schumacher and other members from Benetton triggered a comeback of the F1 team, with three wins in 1996, and close yet eventually losing challenges to the driver's championship in the years 1997 to 1999.
2000-2004 Schumacher Dominates F1
In an unprecedented and record-setting fashion, Schumacher and Ferrari dominate F1 winning the World Driver's championship from 2000 through 2004 and the Constructors' Championship from 1999 through 2004. 2006 saw him retire from F1.
Until 2008
As of 2004, Fiat Group owns 56% of Ferrari, Mediobanca owns 15%, Commerzbank owns 10%, Lehman Brothers owns 7%, and Enzo's adopted son Piero Ferrari owns 10%. Of these, Ferrari is under main control of the Fiat Group, containing Alfa Romeo as well.

Lexus IS250
The Lexus IS250, smallest model in the Lexus range and is available in two versions, one more than before. The new version, the IS250 Luxury, comes with additional equipment as well as an extra-cost option of a tinted moonroof. Customers get two new colours to choose from (ten in total) and a selection of interior colours coordinated with the exterior colours.
While there are no changes to the 2.5-litre V6 engine with Dual VVT-I (variable timing for both intake and exhaust valves) which is mated to a 6-speed sequential automatic transmission, a notable new feature is the Lexus Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM). This is a concept of vehicle kinematics control that integrates brake control, drive power control, steering control and coordinated control with the automatic transmission. A more advanced form of vehicle stability control, it helps the driver to retain control of the car in slippery conditions by automatically applying the brakes to counteract understeer or oversteer and at the same time, adjusting engine torque to match.
Unless a close look at the 2008 and 2009 models is done side by side, it would be hard to tell the difference as the changes are subtle. New for 2009 is the restyled grille – the vertical bars as well as the number of bars that make up the grille have been changed to present 'a more powerful, bolder appearance’. Also subtly changed is the front lip which is not integrated with the front bumper for a smoother appearance.
In keeping with its sports sedan identity, the IS250 has more clearly defined character lines along the sides. Extending the front bumper by 10 mm has given the profile a sharper, sleeker look which is complemented by the low-slung body that has a low drag coefficient of 0.28 Cd.
Also new are the redesigned door mirrors which incorporate turn indicators (previously on the front fender panels) and at the rear, there is strengthened contrast between light and dark in the character of the bumper. The bottom section of the bumper now has a blackout area which gives a more sporty look. The rear combination lamps have also been revised (in the layout of the various segments) and as before, bright LEDs are used to provide stronger illumination.
For the IS250 Luxury, High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights are standard and Lexus Malaysia (which is a division of UMW Toyota Motor) assures that owners will not have problems because they are approved by JPJ for the model. Auto-levelling is also provided so that the lights are always correctly aimed and do not dazzle oncoming drivers. It is because of improperly aligned HID lights that has led to complaints and the JPJ action.
Though the exterior dimensions seem compact, the cabin of the IS250 has a spacious feeling, thanks to the large surfaces and long character lines around it. There are two trim types in the 2009 model: for the standard IS250, a combination of leather and aluminium is used while for the IS250 Luxury, it’s leather and wood. Depending on the interior colour (three choices, coordinated with the exterior colour), the Birdseye Maple wood trim will be either light brown or gray.
Other features that come standard with the Luxury version are automatic adjustment for the steering column (tilt/telescope) with memory, electrochromic rearview mirror that automatically reduces glare from the headlights of cars behind, illuminated scuff plates on the door sills, a rear window sunshade activated by a button on the dashboard, semi-aniline leather upholstery and a memory function for the seat position for the powered front seats (adjustable 8 ways).
The audio system for the IS250 Luxury is a Mark Levinson 14-speaker system with a 6-CD in-dash changer and mp3/WMA capable. For the standard IS250, the standard audio system is the Lexus Premium system with 13 speakers and a 6-CD in-dash changer.
Quietness has always been a strong point of Lexus automobiles and this is the result of not only the use of high-performance damping and sound insulation materials but also the strategy of eliminating noise and vibrations at their source. From the very first Lexus model 20 years ago, the engineers have not been contented 'hiding’ noise and vibrations and have tracked down the source of such unwanted irritants and then found solutions to eliminate them altogether.
For ease of entry at night, the IS250 has an Illuminated Entry System which provides soft lighting inside the cabin. There are also LED lights which shine downwards from the door mirrors so that water puddles or other hazards near the doors will be visible when stepping out of the car.
As with other Lexus models (and also in certain Toyota models), the IS250 has Optitron meters which are brighter than normal meters and have a 3-dimensional appearance to enhance clarity. The meters have a 30% tint to reduce glare and the driver can also adjust the illumination to a desired level. Rings around the meters can be set to illuminate in different colours at certain speeds to alert the driver visually, quite a cool feature!
As with the previous IS250, the 2009 version has, as standard, cruise control, a Multi-Information Display, Dual Zone Climate Control with ducts to the rear seats, audio switches on the steering wheel and Pushbutton starting/stopping of the engine. Smart Key Access makes it unnecessary to use a key to unlock the car; all the driver needs to do is press a small button on the handle and the doors will unlock (provided the compact Smart Key Access unit is on the person’s body).
For extra comfort, the front occupants’ seats in the IS250 Luxury have small fans in the seats which will blow cooling air upwards through the ventilated seat material. This feature can also be turned off if not required so things don’t get too cold 'down there’.
